Art Gallery of South Australia
The Art Gallery of South Australia holds one of Australia's finest, largest and oldest public art collections. Founded in 1881, the Gallery is situated across North Terrace from Adelaide's commercial centre, and surrounded by the State Library, the South Australian Museum, and the University of Adelaide along a leafy cultural boulevard. From its earliest days Adelaide has been a civilised, well-planned and attractive capital city with a strong tradition of interest in, and support for the arts. It has produced more than its share of significant Australian artists, all of whom are well represented and displayed in the Art Gallery.
Adelaide hosts Australia's oldest, largest and most important multi-arts festival, the biennial Adelaide Festival to which the Gallery has always made a lively contribution. Over a decade ago the Art Gallery of South Australia established the Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, a now well established major event in the Australian contemporary art calendar. ConVerge will be the 7th Adelaide Biennial since its inception in 1990, continuing the Gallery's commitment to the work of contemporary visual artists throughout Australia today.

Australian
The Art Gallery of South Australia is recognised as holding the most balanced collections of Australian art from colonial art to the present day. The Gallery's relatively new upstairs west wing is devoted to the display of contemporary art.
European & British
The Gallery's collection of European art from the late 15th century onwards - of paintings, sculpture, prints, drawings and the decorative arts - is the second largest in Australasia. It also includes one of the most representative of British art collections outside Britain, covering all media from 16th century to the present.
Asian
The Asian collection represents most cultures of the region and includes significant individual works. This collection includes important and beautiful Japanese sculptures and screens, Chinese porcelain and Indian sculptures. The collection of Indonesian and Indian textiles from the 17 century to the early 20th century is regarded as one of the most outstanding in the world.
Gallery Bookshop
The Gallery's shop is Adelaide's best specialist art, architecture, design and craft bookshop. It also stocks a great range of wonderful gifts, greeting cards and postcards of works in the collection and selected objects from galleries around the world.
Gallery Café
The Art Gallery Café serves coffee, lunch and light meals everyday. With seating inside and also in the Gallery courtyard, it's a great place to pause during a visit or to have a lingering lunch with friends.
