project description:
The Sonic Landscapes project attempts to extend the concept of virtual space to the auditory domain. Our goal is to demonstrate a system that allows the user to wander at will in physical space and simultaneously experience a three dimensional acoustic simulation that is overlaid on the environment. The acoustic simulation consists of a number of interactive sound objects and behaviours which correspond to the location of physical objects or features in the "real world" and which appear to respond to the user's movements and position, thus giving the impression that the sonic objects are real and inhabit physical space.
