Professor Sue Rowley
Professor Sue Rowley was appointed Australian Research Council Executive Director for the Humanities and Creative Arts in February 2001. She is a past president of the Australian Council of University Art and Design Schools, and has been a member of the Australian Research Council's Large Grants Committee, Humanities and Social Sciences panel. Professor Rowley was a member of the Advisory Group to the Research in the Creative Arts Project, a joint study of the Australian Council of University Art and Design Schools (ACUADS) and the National Council of Heads of Tertiary Music Schools (NACHTMUS), funded under the DETYA Evaluation and Investigations Programme.
Prior to her appointment as Executive Director, Sue Rowley was the Head of the School of Art History and Theory at the University of New South Wales College of Fine Arts.
Professor Rowley has been President of Object, the Australian Centre of Craft and Design. Her research and writing on art, craft and design is complemented by curatorship. She has curated international exhibitions of contemporary Australian art and design, including Crossing Borders: Contemporary Australian Textiles, which toured the USA from 1995 until 1997, and The Somatic Object (Sydney, Taipei, Singapore and Aachen, 1997-1999)
