Richard Stanford
Richard Stanford is a research based new media artist whose work over the past decade has been committed to art residencies within medical institutions. His residencies include the NSW Institute of Forensic Medicine, Sydney City Morgue, Heart Research Institute, South Sydney Area Pathology Service, Liverpool Hospital, and the Dept. of Anatomy University of Sydney. In 2001 he was awarded his PhD in Fine Arts at The University of New South Wales with a project entitled 'Residing with Death'. The thesis explored medico-legal implications of sudden death through an 18 month Residency at the NSW Institute of Forensic Medicine and City Morgue. He is currently developing a two to three year residency project entitled 'Residing with Cell Death' that is tracing the visual culture of programmed cell death at the John Curtain School of Medical Research, Canberra.
